How to set the Virtual Machine name using Azure Image Builder?

According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/linux/image-builder manual one can build an image on Azure using Azure Image Builder. When running the first example, the following error is shown in the customization log:
```
PACKER ERR ==> azure-arm: ERROR: -> RequestDisallowedByPolicy :
Resource '1f43d6s8hd4fr5e' was disallowed by policy
"Virtual Machine Naming Policy"
```
The question is how to set the Virtual Machine image name using Azure Image Builder.

Attempts to solve the issue
1. Asked the team that is responsible for the policy to remove are change the Virtual Machine Naming Policy
2. Tried to change the VM image name by modifying some keys in the json file.
3. Created the following GitHub https://github.com/Azure/azvmimagebuilder/issues/28 .

Since you are already running in a virtual environment, the simplest way would be to give each user a separate, small, environment to work with. If your operations team are any good, they will be using standard templates and/or scripting to create and tear down virtual environments in any case so this should be simple. If you were using a Linux server, the easiest approach would be virtualisation via Docker.

Your approach sounds reasonable. Many of the analytics-oriented DBMS allow access to data lake files in situ. You're just reproducing a similar feature in user-space. IIRC ADF's data flow uses a DataBricks cluster under the covers. This may be a simpler implementation than writing dataframes in a notebook and getting it to run in 'Bricks. I think most opt for a load then process approach because SQL makes such manipulation easy and Synapse is optimised to perform it. If your source database is SQL Server you may want to consider Change Data Capture for watermarks / delta tracking.

Container virtualization with Linux is a combination of kernel features, namespaces and cgroups, used to run an application in a sandbox. Each application has it's own filesystem, network stack, pid namespace, etc, but runs on the same OS kernel as the host. From the host you can see the processes running, but from inside the sandbox, all you can see is your application. It is designed for managing server side applications. Application virtualization is very similar to container virtualization, and the lines are a bit fuzzy to me. In the context of something like Flatpak, it is using the same namespaces and cgroups you see with container tools like docker. The key difference is they have designed the tool for desktop use cases, meaning tools that are designed to be accessed with a local GUI, rather than running remotely as something like a web server. Emulation is a way to run programs designed for another OS. You typically cannot run a Windows binary on a Linux system and vice versa, the OS kernels are very different, the binary formats are different, they're effectively speaking different languages. The emulation layer provides a translation to run non-native programs on the local machine without creating an entire virtual machine and running a separate OS. This is very different from the container and application virtualization where you run native OS applications on a shared OS kernel.

Your interpretation is correct: My current understanding is that a machine represents a raw physical or virtual machine; just the computational resources like cpu, memory and storage. Nodes, then, would represent a machine that is configured for using with OpenShift, that is, a machine that contains the services necessary to run pods and is managed by the master components. The differences arise on the level of abstraction. A Node in OpenShift is exactly the same thing as a Kubernetes node. It refers to the abstraction of a worker/master "Node" in a "Cluster". The Node abstraction only exists within the boundaries of a running cluster. A Machine is an abstraction introduced by the Cluster API which is an ongoing effort to allow deploying K8S clusters using a declarative approach. OpenShift is currently adopting the Cluster API hence they expect you to define the host infrastructure required to run your Nodes using the Machine spec.

Deployment slots share the same resources. The percentage of CPU used is what is taken by all slots combined. After a swap, it should still monitor the production slot.

The following setup works for me. I can't comment, so using an answer. What exactly do you mean by "However, when they were finished there were no parallel jobs available in our account." If you use the MS hosted agents, and if you bought three parallel jobs, you should see them in the Organization settings -> Parallel jobs overview. If not, try lo log out, clear cache etc. The purchases are indeed for a month, as explained https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/details/devops/azure-devops-services/ , the costs would be about 40 euros for a month, so for three it would be around 120 euro a month. As an alternative, and as suggested by others, you could use self hosted agents. They are cheaper, and depending on resources on the host where you install the agent, they run faster. And then, depending on your needs, there are several ways that might speed up your deployment process, but that usually depends on what you've already configured and your needs. And then last, if you are a really early user of DevOps, there was an option to pay for hosted agents by the minute. That could explain your situation, but I've checked several organizations inclusing a few already several years old but I can't find any reference of it.

Ideally yes, you'd want your developers to be able to run the code locally for the sake of unit tests (as one example) and then - when ready - commit to a remote repository on Azure DevOps. You could then issue a PR, merge into (for example) the 'develop' branch, and have this branch kick off your CICD pipeline in Azure DevOps to deploy to your development environment (or App Service). You could also split your CICD into one build pipeline, which at the end stage hands off to one of three release pipelines (Dev, Test, Production). The flexibility is there. Our developers used to use Visual Studio to deploy to AWS via the AWS Toolkit before we 'matured' into committing code to Azure DevOps and then letting the CICD pipeline take care of that step for us. Much better audit capability, processes (PR, Approvers etc) and automation.

No connection is required from my point of view if you already created the Api Web or are creating it you just need to consume it. The api will drop the information in JSON in a serialized way, all you have to do is make the http request with the info url you need and deserialize it. .. To copy into the image or to mount volumes--my advice: if the files will change infrequently, then copy them into the image, with the understanding that if they need to be modified, you will need to rebuild the image. if you need to frequently change the files, or store some kind of state about the files (and re-use them with future container instances of the image), then mount them as volumes.

Docker Prepends the current folder name with all the components name created using docker compose file. Eg : If the current folder name containing the docker-compose.yml file is test, all the volumes,network and container names will get test appended to it. In order to solve the problem people earlier proposed the idea of using -p flag with docker-compose command but the solution is not the most feasible one as a project name is required just after the -p attribute. The project name then gets appended to all the components created using docker compose file. The Solution to the above problem is using the name property as in below. volumes: data: driver: local name: mongodata networks: internal-network: driver: bridge name: frontend-network This volume can be referred in the service section as services: mongo-database: volumes: - data:/data/db networks: - internal-network The above name attribute will prevent docker-compose to prepend folder name. Note : For the container name one could use the property container_name services: mongo-database: container_name: mongo
