Can't find the main menu in Pokemon go

A web search says to find the ball at the bottom of the screen and tap it and that opens the main menu. But there is no ball at the bottom of the screen:

If I could get to the main menu, I could turn off sound, etc. (No, the thing in the lower left corner is not a menu.)

It looks like you've just installed the game because there are three starter Pokemon around you. Before you can access the rest of the game, you must choose to catch one of the three Pokemon.

As you can see in this https://youtu.be/S1haN8xvYz4?t=260 , capturing one of the starter Pokemon is an unavoidable part of the tutorial.

Yes you can. According to this article: Place a Pokemon in a gym. Pokemon must last at least one hour before being defeated. You'll earn one coin for every hour your Pokemon remains in the gym. Coins cannot be collected until the Pokemon is defeated. There is a maximum of 100 coins per day that can be earned. You must wait for your Pokemon to be defeated in a gym however to get the coins. When a pokemons motivation reaches 0, it still must be defeated before it will return to you - giving you the coins. Niantic's support page states: You earn free PokéCoins for keeping your Pokémon on Gyms. The longer the Pokémon stay on the Gym, the more PokéCoins you earn. Be sure to give your Pokémon treats often to keep them on the Gym and maximize the PokéCoins you’ll earn. When your Pokémon’s motivation is reduced to zero, it will return to your collection, bringing back PokéCoins with it. You’ll receive a notification with the amount of PokéCoins earned when your Pokémon returns to you. This seems to contradict when a pokemon's motivation reaches 0 it still must be defeated. In fact, it contradict Ninatic's own article about the new changes: If a Pokémon’s motivation is completely depleted in battle, it leaves the Gym and returns to its owner the next time it is defeated. Edit: Niantic updated the coin system due to complaints about how slow it was. Currently, it appears to be about 1 coin ever 10 minutes. This Reddit contains some proof on this, and states: Update: There have now been 2 silent changes to coin accrual in the new system: Coins are now granted 6x more frequently: in 10 minute increments, rather than hourly Gym coin earnings are now capped at 50 coins/day This article also mentions the update: UPDATE: According to multiple user reports at The Silph Road, the coin payout has increased to be multiple times an hour, about 1 coin per 10 minutes of defence time at gyms — which is way more sensible! The article linked at the top of this answer also has updated their page to reflect this: Place a Pokemon in a gym. Pokemon must last at least one hour before being defeated. Simply create the google account outside Pokemon Go (on your device's browser for example), and then login in that new account when you open the Pokemon Go app. Let me know if it works.

Keep on scrolling my friend. There seems to not be a filter as of yet. I couldn't find an empty one myself, so I just kept refreshing it. I allowed my location, etc and I got into one quite quickly. Update: Just keep refreshing the page, as soon as you seen an orange tournament (not just started) don't think don't look, just try to join.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. Pokemon Go is exploding in popularity and there's both server timeouts and app glitches (probably caused by the server timeouts!) and unfortunately we just need to bare with those until things become a bit more stable. The reason you're still seeing the Pokemon that you don't have is most likely because you've "seen" it but haven't "caught" it. "Seen" Pokemon are shown greyed-out in your Pokedex. You can also confirm this by checking the count at the very top of your Pokedex. So, the best you can do is try to look for the Squirtle again. Sorry!

What I do is stand where the spawner is, and find which corner moving to causes both the X and Z coordinates to decrease. This is the corner that should be four blocks from the spawner. (Likewise, when both coordinates are increasing you should move three blocks out from the spawner.)

Based on the screenshot you posted, you haven't fully completed the challenge yet. In this case, you must Power up Pokemon 10 times And Battle another Trainer in the Great League And Battle in a Raid Once you have completed and redeemed each individual tasks within the challenge, only then can you redeem the challenge rewards.

This Pokémon is Xatu from the Johto region, it is the evolution of Natu. Xatu is a Psychic/Flying type Pokémon. It is number 178 in the Pokédex and described in Pokémon GO as: MYSTIC POKEMON Xatu stands rooted and still in one spot all day long. GPS is not an app, it's hardware, like the speaker or microphone. Your iPod does not have this hardware. Some users have reported various levels of success using Wi-Fi location tracking only. There is also a 'Battery Saver' mode in the settings which - amongst other things - seems to reduce the amount of location requests and thereby reduce the time the 'No GPS' message is active. So in conclusion, you may have some success with your iPod, but if you want to guarantee you are able to play PoGo successfully you need to consider getting a GPS-enabled smartphone.

The PTC login (not the automatic Google one) has been just awful so far (the first week). They launched an update for iPhone that locked all PTC members out for about half a day. Beyond that their ability to connect has been far worse than Googles services. Likely because Googles auth servers are just more robust. Either way, this is likely a temporary issue.

This has been updated and fixed as of iOS version 1.25.0 and Android version 0.55.0. You are now able to play music in the app without having it get paused/shut off. From this article: The update brings an exciting feature Android users' ways, which lets them listen to music while they are playing the game. Players are reporting that the updated app does not interrupt the music being played prior to the start of the game any longer. I can confirm this behavior on iOS (the article seems to only mention Android). Music playing will no longer have its volume lowered or muted when using the updated app. Yes, I ran into the same issue after the update and I was able to find a workaround. If you are using iOS, activate Siri, then close out of it. Your audio levels will be back to normal afterwards. Here is another workaround, in case the previous one doesn't work. I'm not sure if this works for everyone (and it's not really a solution), but when I skip to the next track the volume goes back to normal. If I switch apps and reopen Pokemon it lowers the volume until I skip tracks again, but otherwise it stays fixed. I'm on iPhone with iOS 10. It appears that there is a potential workaround for Android users as well. See this post: Music is stopped each time you launch/reopen the game on Android. If your music player supports quick controls in the notification bar (e.g. Google Play, Amazon, Pandora), it can be restarted there. If they don't have a Play/Resume button there, it seems you're out of luck. Additionally, it looks like this step may or may not be required: you have to enable notifications for whatever music player you're using and then you can play it from the notification screen

As far as I know it shouldn't as the area loaded around you is always the same regardless of where you're looking and how zoomed you are.

Multiple fridges in the kitchen area of the Hotel. (This is a one time event, you cannot go back to the kitchen after the quest there is complete) Two refrigerators in the abandoned house also known as the Square near the southern edge of the Moresby map. You can fast travel to and from here to farm them. Refrigeration units inside the Supermarket. Three refrigerators in the Laboratory, two in the room where Dr. West is standing, and one fridge in the corner room down the hall through the two double doors. Two refrigerators within the hut on the Eastern edge of the River Village, at the top of the hill. The fridges in the Hotel was where I found the most. I think I got about half a dozen bottles of champagne from there the first time I went through. The best way to get champagne is to fast travel between the Abandoned House and the Laboratory, checking the fridges at each location every time. Source

It's generally accepted that saving your limited-use incubators for longer distance eggs is preferred because you get more time of having multiple incubators. With this logic, you should probably never use a limited-use incubator on a 2km egg and never use your infinite-use incubator on a 10km egg (unless you are out of extra incubators). That being said, it might be worth making an exception if your inventory is full of 10km or 2km eggs. You are unlikely to run into this situation though if you prioritize those eggs to hatch. More likely is you'll fill your bag with 5km eggs which are acceptable to be hatched by either type.
