Is there an advantage to playing Waluigi?

I always found weird that it seems most people that are high ranking in Mario Kart 8 plays Waluigi.

Always tought that for some reason, most tryhards just gravitate towards that character, but seeing the MK8 tournament this weekend half the field was running Waluigi.

So it really made me wonder: Is there any factual advantage to playing Waluigi? or it's just a meme I'm missing to play Waluigi?

Chase247 made a good video explaining why players pick Waluigi.

To summarize, characters in Mario Kart 8 have hidden stats that go beyond what's shown to the player. Waluigi has a decent balance of the three most important stats: Speed, Weight, and Mini-Turbo.

Additionally, Waluigi has a skinny frame compared to most other racers, blocking less of your view of the track than characters with the same stats like DK or Roy.

Inside/Outside Drifting defined These two terms refer specifically to how a vehicle will handle when you begin a drift; in particular, the direction it will shift. Inside drifting - the bike will shift (sharply) in the direction you are drifting. In some cases you will slide as far as 1/4* of width of the track. Outside drifting - the bike will turn in the direction you are drifting, but the center of gravity (like a real car) is near the rear, so the car will lurch "outward" in the opposite direction your are drifting. Generally outside drifting is more slippery than inside drifting, and a bike or kart may lurch as much as 1/2* of the width of the track. * These numbers are an estimation, and should by no means be taken to be exact. It will also vary from one vehicle combination to another. Practical Differences The main "practical" difference is how you need to approach turns, specifically long or sharp ones. With inside drifting bikes you must always keep in mind how close you are to the edge of the track. It is best to approach a sharp bend from the outer-rim (or outer-middle) to avoid being shifted off the track. On the other hand, with outside drifting, curves must be approached from the inner-rim or middle (at max), to avoid running off the track at the outer-rim. Strategies The drifting method you choose will be based upon the strategies you wish to employ or prioritize. Here are a few in brief. Collecting coins on bends - Use outside drifting. Inside drifting bikes will generally hug the inner-rim so tightly you'll glide by all of the coins, or at least most. It is possible to collect them efficiently with inside handling, but it requires careful planning ahead of time, and may in theory defeat the purpose of your sharp technique. Overtaking opponents and cutting sharp curves - Use inside drifting (obviously!) If your main concern is to have an aggressive lower-lane advantage then inside drifting is for you. The main advantage to lower lane is that the radius is smaller meaning a faster turn, and the ability to overcome opponents. If you use an outside drifting vehicle you need to be aware that you make easily loose a lead on a course with many bends. Taking long bends - Use outside drifting. Due to the sharpness of the angle that inside drifting bikes use, they have a tendency to drift in beyond there initial lurch. Therefore on long, especially gradual turns, if you hold it to long, you may drift off the inner-rim. Now, while outside drifting vehicles suffer this in an opposite manner, it is not as intense and much easier to control. As a final word, long bends are possible with an inside drifting vehicle, but are best broken into several smaller drifts, which may or may not harm performance depending on the situation. Building up mini-turbos - Use outside drifting. When a drift is held for a sufficient amount of time a mini-turbo will be granted. There are two levels: blue and a more powerful orange. The level gained is a successive process in time. Hold a drift, get a blue; hold it longer, get an orange. Inside drifting bikes will be at a disadvantage here, because due to the sharpness and speed they take turns, they won't have as much time to build up their mini turbos. An outside drifting vehicle will be more relaxed in this situation since it will by its very nature have a greater chance of drifting long enough to gain an orange boost. It should be noted that orange mini turbos are possible with inside drifting bikes; they just don't have the advantage outside drifting vehicles do. Fire Hopping There is one final point I'd like to discuss, and that is the concept of fire hopping. Essentially it is a technique used to make boosts (such as the ones from drifting mini-turbos) last longer. The technique requires a player to hop their vehicle by pressing ZR and is well documented in this answer. This technique is only possible on outside drifting vehicles, and therefore if you choose to employ it (as many players already are) you will need to keep this in mind. On the other hand if you desire to build your strategy around an inside drifting style you will be at a potentially severe disadvantage. I will leave this up to you to evaluate yourself. The MCPatcher launcher has the capability to launch Minecraft, supposedly to be used to test whether your set of mods work with each other. In the 'Game' tab of the launcher, press "Test Minecraft" to run it in offline mode. Note that you will not have the same inventory as before, your username will be "Player", and you will have the default skin. Generally speaking your speed on the ground will be faster than your speed in the air, and therefore you will want to get back on the ground as quickly as possible. In certain cases gliding will open up a strategic oppurtunity, such as reaching a new area, taking a shortcut, or giving a benefit applicable only to those who choose to stay in the air. For example near the end of the course Mount Wario, there is a gliding segment where several hoops can be found in the air (see figure 1), which grant a small boost of speed when flown through. In such cases your own judgement will need to be used to decide what is the best opportunity, by weighing both it's measure of benefits & risks. Figure 1. Flying through these hoops will grant a small boost of speed. However, if you choose your kart customizations correctly, you can gain an air speed that is equal, or nearly equal to your ground speed. If you can find a combination that provides such a kart then it would essentially be best to remain in the air, since you would not be losing any speed, and you could leave yourself open to new strategies. Yes, you can get your items faster by pressing the item button to interrupt the roulette. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's pretty simple: Normally you get an item after a certain period of time, and you can press the button to receive it earlier, though there is a minimum roulette time (it can't be instant). In MK8 specifically, this is the only pure factor in roulette time: it's fixed, but you can interrupt it earlier after a point. However, when playing online, the roulette doesn't stop until it successfully hears from all other players that they know what your item is. As a result it will roll slower in games with more laggy opponents.

Do you have to do Nintendo poweroff every time? If by "poweroff" you mean turning off the console completely, rather than simply putting it to sleep, probably not. I couldn't find any explicit information on what exactly affects the time limit, but from the little I could find, it seems that the time limit affects the entire console for as long as it's not suspended. According to https://play.nintendo.com/parents/crash-courses/parental-controls/ : You can set limits on how long or how late the Nintendo Switch system can be used each day. When the time limit has been reached, an alarm notification will pop up on the Nintendo Switch screen. The app will also tell you if the Nintendo Switch console stays on past this time limit. If needed, you can always set the system to automatically interrupt when the time’s up. Parents can disable play time alarms and game suspension features temporarily or for a full day using their PIN. For more details about how to use Nintendo Switch Parental Controls, visit support. Emphasis mine. The wording appears to imply that the time limit affects the console, rather than just games. When the daily time limit is reached, you can choose to either have the system suspend the game or simply have a notification appear on the screen. If the game is suspended, the system will go into sleep mode immediately, and the player will not be able to continue their game. The system cannot be played again until the restriction is lifted or the daily time period has passed. Players can usually resume from the same spot once the restriction has been lifted. Emphasis mine. "If the game is suspended" is the most explicit piece of information I could find. If the system is put to sleep while the game is suspended, then that would mean the time limit can be reached even if the game is not running. With that said, I think this is a good opportunity to teach your child some good habits, such as turning off devices they don't use (or at least putting them to sleep instead). This way the battery won't drain as fast, won't need charging as often, and won't deteriorate as fast. Note that putting the console to sleep is a very different process from turning it off. Turning the console off would require pressing the POWER button for at least 3 seconds, then selecting "Power Options", then "Turn Off". Doing so will also close the game (if one is running) and any unsaved progress will be lost. There are very few situations where you might want to turn the console off completely: Saving as much power as possible. The Switch consumes almost no power when turned off, as opposed to consuming very little power when in sleep mode. The console isn't behaving properly. Turning the console off allows it to reset its state. This can help when the console is in a weird or corrupted state. The console installed updates and needs to restart. When this happens, the console offers to restart for you, so you don't need to manually turn it off and back on. The Nintendo Switch, being a portable console, is designed like a smartphone: instead of turning it off, you're supposed to put it to sleep. Putting the console to sleep and waking it back up (and resuming the game afterwards) takes very little time. Putting the console to sleep is as quick and easy as pressing the POWER button once. To wake it up, simply press either the POWER or Home button, then press the A button to resume the game where you left off.

According to Nintendo's page for Mario Kart 8 DLC: You can cancel your advance purchase by contacting Nintendo Customer Service before the first DLC pack is released. Clicking 'Support' near the top of that page, selecting Wii U, and then 'Contact Us', leads to this support page, which lists 1-800-255-3700 as the contact for Order Problem Solving. So, yes, you have to call via phone to cancel an order. Email does not appear to be an option.

After a variety of testing, here are my results: The signs on Mario Circuit, Wario Stadium (DS), and Neo Bowser City (3DS) [DLC2] swing when smacked. Players should veer into them at every opportunity. The signs on Toad's Turnpike (N64) and Grumble Volcano (Wii) can be hit, but won't budge, and you'll just make a fool of yourself. Signs on other courses can't be reached, though you still have to be alert when throwing Bananas, or they'll bounce off and hat you.

From here: to get the GoldenKart, you need to "win every Cup with a single star on both 150cc and Mirror Mode in Grand Prix." So, it looks like you've got a lot of races ahead of you! If you are also looking to get the gold tires, that site tells you you have to "Beat every Staff Ghost in Time Trial mode at 150cc."

Directly after the starting line, there is a giant crack in the ice. If you were to go around it, you would find yourself looking down the tunnel in your screenshot, with the boost pad visible to the left. If you were to drop down into the giant crack, you would have complete the next part of the race under water. If you follow the left path, you will eventually come out at this boost pad.

You are punished for changing the game time (no matter how much, it seems), but not the system time. Here's what happens: If you change the time on your 3DS system, Animal Crossing seems to simply think that's the time it is now. Trees grow, events change, the only "bad" things that happen would have happened with the flow of time. Even going back in time via this method seems to work okay, even when going to a day previously played. If you change the game time, using the option at the main menu of Animal Crossing, you will randomly trip for a while after changing the clock. The duration of tripping seems to last longer than the current play session, possibly the full day? But it eventually goes away. If, however, you were to change the game time this way before every play session you would trip randomly every single session, which is highly frustrating. Also note that going backwards in time will spoil any turnips you had, since the game knows you went backwards, while it doesn't know you went forwards if you go by the system clock. tl;dr: Change your 3DS's system time to time travel, do not mess with the in-game clock regularly or will will randomly trip.
