For security reasons the only way to change the option "Allow OEM unlock" is from within the running device in the developer settings menu.

All the methods you've tried, and the ones I've been reading for the past hour, exploit a circuit "bump" that shouldn't even happen in the first place. If they don't work with your phone, be happy, your phone is not suffering from further defects. Some I'm referencing are: Plug your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Remove and add the battery several times to make the phone start booting: This video or this video. Gently flick (tap) the back of the phone, right under the lens, with a finger. What you should actually do is to repair the phone, it costs a certain amount, but at least you get the problem fixed by professionals and can take preventive measures to prevent this from happening again. To repair, you can use Nexus S Power Button Repair or other near you. As a preventive measure, to avoid degrading the power button, you can use an app to lock/unlock the phone. With it, you'll give less use to your power button, and in turn it may last longer. Even if it gets broken again, with an app, you still have alternative methods of controlling your phone (lock/unlock). Fix Broken Power Button by Destil available from Google Play Store. Note: An app installed on your phone CANNOT power it on. So, if the power button breaks again, be sure to not let your phone's battery get empty.

OK, to answer the part of your question that wasn't answered by the questions I linked in the comments: Yes, you can unofficially upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3. This XDA thread has a relatively comprehensive list of ROMs. It looks like all the 2.3 ROMs are pretty buggy, so you should probably go with a 2.2 ROM that looks good to you; after a brief look, the one I would probably try is called "AmberHome". The thread for each particular ROM should have installation instructions.

a little late for this. Wildfire is now rootable. I did it on mine a couple of days ago. I have cyanogenmod running. I followed the instructions in this site you basically first use alpharev to unlock the S-off mode and then you install clockwork recovery to backup and then unrevocked to root.

Wow, that looks crazy! /storage/emulated/0 isn't "real" and you shouldn't be deleting 0, if you are trying to clean out /data/media/0 pass a wildcard rm -fr /data/media/0/* that will flush out your internal "sdcard"

why emulating Kindle OS isn't a standard feature in existing emulators Android isn't like Windows. Sure it runs on billions of devices just like Windows but there is no one single unified OS binary for Android that runs across multiple SoCs. Each Android device needs a lot of closed source blobs from the SoC manufacturer, starting from boot to every single driver. There is nothing available openly to make Fire OS run on hardware other than a Kindle. No source for the OS. No drivers. No unified binary blob that runs on architecture that a VM emulates.

I had similar problems with 4.0.3 and 4.1, but I fixed it with king root (note the lack of an 'o' after 'king'). It is one of those one click root methods, but it has served me well, and always resides in my toolkit. The following is non-root method: Create a dummy app in Android Studio. [Credit] MainActivity.java, put right after setContentView(R.layout.activity_main): WifiManager wfm = (WifiManager) getSystemService(Context.WIFI_SERVICE); try { wfm.setWifiEnabled(Boolean.parseBoolean(getIntent().getStringExtra("wifi"))); } catch (Exception e) { } System.exit(0); AndroidManifest.xml, put before : Enabled USB debugging settings, plug USB cable to your phone, press Shift+F10 to run the app which will also install the app. In your phone, navigate to Advanced Wi-Fi and get the IPv4 address. While USB cable still plugged, issue adb shell command, Issue pm list packages command to find out the package name if not sure. For example package:com.blogspot.diannaoxiaobai.dummyonly, remove the prefix package: is your package name. Or you can simply get the package name in AndroidManifest.xml, e.g. package="com.blogspot.diannaoxiaobai.dummyonly". Issue setprop persist.adb.tcp.port 5555 (credit) command. Ctrl+D to quit adb session. Unplug your cable. Reboot your phone now. Assume your phone automatically connected to wifi on reboot, and your laptop connected to the same wifi network. No need any USB cable now. Issue adb connect 192.168.11.5, in which this ip get from step #2 above. Issue adb shell am start -n com.blogspot.diannaoxiaobai.dummyonly/.MainActivity -e wifi false to disable wifi. com.blogspot.diannaoxiaobai.dummyonly is the package name get from step #4 above. Okay here is how to root without unlocking bootloader for XP Jellybean. This is confirmed working and do it in your own risk. Note: Charge your phone to 100% before doing this and back up contact,message and any other installed app. Download and install Flashtool (If you dont know how to flash using flashtool follow this tutorial Download Sony Xperia P_6.1.1.B.1.75_Generic World from here Put the ftf file inside the firmware folder of flashtool Turn Usb Debugging on in your phone Shut down your Xperia P Press the lightning icon inside flashtool Select FLASHMODE (NOT FASTBOOT) Choose the Sony Xperia P_6.1.1.B.1.75_Generic World ftf file for XP When flashtool ask you to connect your device, insert USB cable first in your phone then hold Volume Down Button and insert the other end of USB in your PC Wait till it finish Disconnect your phone and power on. You are back in ICS Flash 0.559 kernel via flashtool Remove the phone from PC, reboot the phone Connect the phone to PC Open flashtool hit the root button When you see "waiting for restore to finish" open your phone and run Backup&Restore app and restore RootMe.tar file. Indeed there is something to make your task easier – though not in the way of "remote control all of them at once", but working sequentially. Here's a "simple approach": Prepare your first device (let's call it "master" here): install all the apps you want to have it, set them up if needed. Create a full ADB backup of the "master" (for details, please see Full Backup of non-rooted devices) Now, for each device, restore that "master backup" This should definitely work, but with a few restrictions: it works best if all devices are of the same brand and model, running the same Android version. It might work for devices not fitting (all) these criteria, but then special care must be taken (e.g. better not include "system stuff") limitations come up concerning some data, such as SMS, which are protected against being backed up (don't ask me why) limitations apply to apps protecting themselves against backups (by setting the ALLOW_BACKUP flag to FALSE in their manifests) You might be able to work around the latter two limitations by rooting the "master", installing the Xposed Framework, and use the Backup All Apps module. You then would need to fine-tune step 2 to have the backup only include the packages you want (i.e. explicitly specify/include them on the command line).

You will need to do a factory reset to gain access to your phone. If factory reset don't solve the issue, you'll need to flash a stock firmware. First, turn the phone off. Press and hold the following keys at the same time: Volume Down Key + Power/Lock Key. Release the Power/Lock Key only when the LG logo is displayed, then immediately press and hold the Power/Lock Key again. Release all keys when the Factory hard reset screen is displayed. Press the Power/Lock Key to continue or either of the Volume Keys to cancel. Press the Power/Lock Key once more to confirm or either of the Volume Keys to cancel. WARNING! Performing a hard reset deletes all of your user data, which includes pictures, videos, and music saved to your internal memory.
