How to write a requirement for insurance industry and how to prepare activity bar chart and resource allocation chart



  • I am new to software project management and got a requirement to design the overall project of an insurance industry from the beginning i.e requirement, what would be the design, etc. I have given detailed information below:

    • Identify Phasewise-Task and Subtask (Requirement , Design, Development, Testing, Move to Production , UAT Support)
    • Prepare Activity Bar chart
    • Prepare resource allocation chart /resource loading

    How will I proceed with this? Any suggestions or answers would be helpful.



  • I would suggest you start by thinking about what is involved in providing insurance. Then, imagine you are starting a new company that is going to be selling insurance. What would you need to do to sell your first insurance policy?

    These steps would then feed in to the phases of the project. What requirements would you need to gather before starting? What would need to be designed? What other considerations might impact on the product (such as what happens if your insurance is really popular and lots of people want to buy it at the same time)?

    Once you have assigned work to the phases of the project, have a think about what people you would need to do the work. What skills would they need? What would be a good balance of people to work on the project (100 developers and one tester wouldn't be very sensible, so what is a good number)?
