The server had a dominance controller. There was a need to remove the controller. I can't connect to the server after the removal. Introducing local administrator records. But I can't get on the server. Tell me what to do.

Looks like you only know the data from a home administrator who's not a local user. It'll be easier to download the disk/flash into something like Hiren'S boot CD and drop the local administrator's password.

Excellent question. Unfortunately, there is no really good way to do what you want. I don't know of any way to see in advance what resources a desktop application may access. Instead, the only approach is to run it within a sandbox or constrained environment that restricts what it can do. There are two general approaches: Use a sandbox. You can run the application in a sandbox that limits what it is able to do. However, you may need to specify a policy for the sandbox, or run it using a default policy that is tightly constrained. On Windows, it's hard to find good sandboxing software for running general-purpose software; the best option might be Sandboxie. HP also built a sandboxing system called Polaris, but as far as I know it was never commercially released. On Linux/BSD platforms, check out Plash, Systrace, Capsicum, Subterfugue, and Rainbow. Use a virtual machine. A simpler and more pragmatic solution is to use a virtual machine and install your application in the virtual machine image (in the guest OS). This will let you run the application, with reasonable confidence that it cannot escape the virtual machine. This may work fine if the application does not legitimately need access to any of your personal information, but if it does need that kind of access, you may find that it is hard to provide the application with partial but not complete access to your data, devices, and other resources. On Linux, Qubes and Virtics provide a secure desktop that uses virtual machines to sandbox every application you run, though I believe they are research-quality prototypes, not robust finished products. They might also be worth a look at, if you are willing to deal with less-finished software.

I've found out that there was an instance of IIS running on my system (not the developer version that is started by Visual Studio, but the standalone version that can be installed via "Turn Windows features on and off"). This causes ntoskrnl.exe to use port 80. Sorry for the false alarm

Microsoft tends to not document things which they don't believe are to be used by customers. I would not expect to find Microsoft documentation for this executable but a close alternative is to research findings from people who reverse engineer Microsoft products. I have a general expectation of this from having worked in support of core Windows OS a while ago. The only supported end user tweak on this service that I remember was splitting services away from a shared svchost instance into a single, dedicated service in a new svchost process, for added system stability or for debugging. If you would be happy with third party research, using Sysinternals tools on a live system, searching the Windows registry for values to do with services or picking up a copy of Windows Internals book could get you close to what you actually want to achieve. To be honest, that's probably not even the weakest point in your scheme. If I was the admin trying to get the secret, all I'd do is decompile the app that's requesting the secret (to see how it does it), and just build a quick .exe that politely asks your service for the secret. I mean, your secret-keeper doesn't really have any way of knowing whether the app requesting the secret is authorized to have it. I think the short answer is: you really can't do what you're asking.

First of all, I'd like to commend you for using the general log. If this were Linux, log rotation could all be done with shell scripting and without manipulating mysql in any way. In your case, it is Windows. Weel, I have some good news and bad news for you, in that order. GOOD NEWS You can enable the general log to record events in a table rather than a text file. On Feb 11, 2012, I wrote a post on how to make the general log a MyISAM table, how to index it, how to enable it, and how to rotate it : MySQL general log. Don't worry, this works for Linux and Windows. The beauty of having the general log as a table is the fact that you can query it for specific text and specific datetime. BAD NEWS You cannot take the text file version of the general log and convert. you will have to stop mysql with net stop mysql. You can copy the text file or delete it. GIVE IT A TRY !!! CAVEAT : It can be a headache to work with the general log as a text file in Windows since Windows places a a strict lock of the table so that you cannot truncate it with MySQL running as you could in Linux.
