Is there any possibility of playing Dwarf Fortress on a Windows Mobile phone? I keep hearing great things about this game, but it seems that the only chances I have of getting any gaming in these days is via my phone.

Your only hope currently is to run DF on a Linux machine and create a terminal to it. You will also need to set the output type to curses with the following changes in the config file.

[SOUND:NO]
...
[PRINT_MODE:TEXT]
```
I would also suggest making the following change in the init file for ease of play (the intro doesn't work well in curses mode).

[INTRO:NO]
```
However with the small screen and small keyboard DF will probably still not be at its best.

This is not currently possible as of the latest verstion of Dwarf Fortress (31.25) You are able to enlarge your embark location pre-embark, but there is no way to guarantee the same dwarves on a reembark (and indeed, I believe Dwarves are spawned from thin air (rather than taken from historical dwarves). Do note that lesser computers are likely to struggle with embarks greater than 4 x 4.

This is a problem with the current version of the game (v0.34.11 as of this writing) and usually happens when the tiles around the place you want to build the wall are walkable, but can't be built from. One such example are ramps. In your case it's more likely that the path finding gets the Dwarf to build the wall from the "wrong" side (one which triggers the error; usually north). Try those steps: Remove all ramps around the building area, even the stand-alone ones sometimes left over from cleaning upper levels by channelling from above. Cancel the build order, re-add it a few moments later (pause, cancel, step a few frames, re-add the order, unpause). Since the building material should already be in place (distance: 0), this is fast. Set up suspended(!) wall build orders from all sides but a diagonal one to the wall. Dwarves will prefer to stay on the tile which has no build designation, and can build walls diagonally. Remove the suspended orders when done.

According to the wiki, "Most creatures will be stopped by any door or hatch, though some others can smash them...You can forbid doors to keep (most) hostile humanoids and creatures out, and your dwarves in." Doors should stop ordinary goblin thieves and most "ordinary" creatures, like mandrills. Creatures that can break down a door are going to be more interested in smashing than stealing. EDIT: The comment is correct. This article clarifies that goblin snatchers can, in fact, bypass locked doors, but not floodgates, or anything similar that's secured with mechanisms and lever. Animal thieves are stopped by locked doors.

I believe it's centred on precisely when the approach circle touches the hit circle or slider. There is a window on either side of that time where you can hit it and score 300. Without mods, this will range from 19.5 ms to 79.5 ms on either side. This gives a total window of 39 to 159 ms. A full chart is available on the osu! wiki. It's actually possible to enable a view to show this more immediately in-game. In the options menu, set the Score meter type to Hit error, and a bar will appear at the bottom of your screen that reflects your most recent hits, relative to perfect timing. Note that the precision required varies by the map settings (specifically, the OD or Overall Difficulty), and that sliders are more forgiving than hit circles in terms of timing precision.

Those traders are present due to a bug, and the issue should be resolved in a newer version (whenever Toady gets around to fixing it). In the mean time, consider them useful scouts and decoys in the ongoing Goblin conflict.

Looked at this post (on Arqade as well), and it seems like the issue might be with iOS permissions. In case the link breaks, go to the iPad settings app, go to Minecraft settings, and toggle "Local Network" to on. Also saw a Reddit post that had the same issue and solution. Seems to be because of the new iOS 14 privacy features. Hope this works, and Happy Gaming.

Deeper and possibly wider. Bear in mind that your location almost always had more than one biome; not all of them may have been described as containing flux stone. I recommend digging a few exploratory shafts well away from your actual fort, going straight down for a couple dozen Z-levels just to see what layers you punch through.

In short: no. I'm afraid there is little support in the area of custom flashing for your device as it is, even on the Android side. This topic on XDA guides you to root the device and install a custom recovery but doesn't give any links ROMs, which you'd need. There is, however, a topic that allows you to install Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Android 5.1.1) here. Note that this is a not officially supported ROM and by the looks of the comments there appear to be quite some issues at the time being. That doesn't mean all hope is lost. There are rumours by reputable resources that Microsoft is working on a way to install Windows 10 (partially) on an Android device but I wouldn't count on it arriving any time soon. Even if it is, there is no way of saying it'll be compatible with the K3 Note. The question is why you need this operating system. If it's specific Microsoft apps you're looking for, there's already a wide range of them available on Android (and iOS) such as Cortana (beta), Bing, Outlook or Word. Virtualization can be a solution for you but you'll need a running Windows machine to connect your device to. Just Google for "run Windows programs on Android" and you'll find plenty easy-to-follow tutorials to get it done. As for dualbooting, you'd be roaming dangerous territory. Dualbooting on an Android device is completely different from your average home PC dualbooting Windows and Ubuntu. There are tools like MultiROM, Safestrap, DualBoot Patcher and GRUB for Android but they are in most situations highly experimental. I hope this helps you in the right direction and at least answers a part of your problem. Whatever you do, make a nandroid backup so if you get in trouble, you can still restore your original setup.

When setting up a workshop, Dwarf Fortress shows you which tiles are impassible. If you haven't installed a tileset, the default is to use a light green X for passable tiles, and a dark green X for impassible tiles. (If you are using a tileset, remember that the middle square of every workshop is passable, so when designating a workshop, the passable tiles are those that look like the center tile.) In the case of the gem workshop, the layout is: x x x x x x x x x So all three tiles on the right of the workshop are impassible, which explains why your dwarf was unable to exit. While the layout differs for each type of workshop, once you understand how Dwarf Fortress indicates impassible tiles, you can see when setting up a workshop where a dwarf can enter or leave the workshop, and where they can't, so you can easily look up in-game which tiles are impassible, and avoid setting up a workshop that a dwarf can't escape from, or setting up a workshop with inefficient stockpile locations (e.g. a stockpile to the right of a gem workshop is less efficient, because the dwarf has to walk around the impassible tiles to get to the stockpile).

When talking about Dwarf Fortress, it sometimes helps to not think of the game as a game, but more like a simulation. The game simulates a lot of things behind the scenes, some of which are very computationally intensive. For instance: Pathfinding - Every unit on the map - not only your dorfs, but also animals, pets, enemies does pathfinding to to keep track of where they're going Fluids - The game simulates flowing fluid's velocity, pressure and depth, as well as generating mists when they fall over several z-levels Temperature - When having Fun with magma and fire, the game keeps track of temperature of each individual tile and object, melting and setting them on fire when necessary Body parts - During combat, parts as small as individual fingernails are simulated and taken into account when combatants engage in biting, stabbing and chopping In addition to the above, DF is mostly single threaded - the main simulation thread usually runs on one CPU core, while the secondary graphics thread runs on another. This means that DF usually does not see significant speedup with modern, multicores processors. To reduce CPU usage, first cap your FPS below the maximum you usually get, then improve performance by disabling some of the simulation elements mentioned above. Since you know your seed, this is easy to do: Just place your seed into the tool on chuckbase (There are other tools online in case this link is dead in the far future) Then you can check your coordinates on your F3 screen and just go there.

You can get some idea of what happens by opening your generated world in legends mode. There's an option that lets you see the spread of different civs over time on a map. Basically, the way it seems to work is that the game randomly picks suitable initial city sites for each civ, and they gradually spread out from there, founding new sites. Where the areas of influence of two civs overlap, they may come into conflict. Apparently, this is tied to the history generation, which records things like the founding and fall of city sites, as well as major battles (which might sometimes result in a site changing ownership). Also, different civs appear to have different requirements for starting sites: for example, elves always start in a forest, while dwarves seem to start near mountains and humans on plains. Evilness, savagery and aridity also seem to affect things; dial those high enough in the worldgen params, and it's quite easy to end up with a world with no playable civs.
