A 3DS system will take a micro SD card and automatically format it. There are no default files on the SD card, it's only used to provide extra space for storing save files. You can pull an SD card out of a 3DS and put it into a computer to look at it, there's nothing special there. You can also swap out SD cards like you would change a memory card for only PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, using multiple SD cards to store games with a single 3DS console. I've done this myself before when I had too many save files and ran out of space. You can test that the SD card works by using settings to move files from the internal hard drive to the SD card, or saving games to the SD card directly. If those files still work, you'll know the SD card is all set to go.

Eris the guest has it right, but for idiots like me, here's a step-by-step (assuming you followed the 3ds hacks guide): Download the latest Luma3ds files onto whatever you use to read/write your SD card (https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v10.2.1) Unzip the files and place the contents of the zip folder (NOT the folder itself) into the root of the SD card. Put the SD card back into the 3Ds, then boot the chainloader by pressing the power button while holding START. Press HOME, select "Scripts", select "GM9Megascript", select "Scripts from Plailect’s Guide", select "Setup Luma3DS to CTRNAND". Unlock the SD card to do so. Press "B", then select "Cleanup" the SD card. (May not be necessary) Press "B", select "SysNAND Backup", wait for it to finish, then press HOME and select "Power off" to exit Godmode9 and finish the fix.

It depends on how you do it. Ultimately, the 3DS is only designed to have one account assigned to it. If you remove that account, the system will be treated as "new". Ultimately, you will lose access to the games, wither through the format, or though stripped access privileges. However some say that the account can be removed without affecting the downloaded games, by erasing your NNID. Monster Hunter Double Cross (aka XX) is pretty much a direct port with updated graphics from the 3DS version but content and gameplaywise it is identical. This also makes it able to crossplay between Switch and 3DS versions in online rooms but not local play. Note, the crossplay feature is only available in the japanese XX versions for 3DS and Switch since the international release of XX titled Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate was only released for the Switch.

Yes, you are able to delete a pre-loaded game from your 3DS (as it is treated as a eShop purchase). You can redownload it as any other eShop game that you have purchased in the past. Tap "Delete Software and Save Data" or "Create Save-Data Backup and Delete Software." If you have selected to back up the save data, you can do so using an existing folder or you can create a new one. Tap "Delete" again to confirm. Without opening it up, there are a couple of things you could try: Try blowing or use a can of compressed air on the button. Use small bursts, don't damage the button Use a toothbrush (preferably new and dry - don't put any cleaner on it) and try to reach under the button and clean out any residue Use a q-tip with a little bit of alcohol and clean around the button. The digital purchases on the eshop are tied to the account. If you change the account you will lose access to the games. As per Nintendo Support: Digital game purchases are final, and cannot be transferred to a different Nintendo Account. Please make sure that you are logged into the correct Nintendo Account when purchasing or redeeming a game. The game isn’t limited to the Nintendo Account that made the purchase. Anyone that uses the purchaser’s primary console can play the digital games or DLC that have been purchased by that Nintendo Account.

There is currently no way to use negative seeds on the New Nintendo 3DS Edition of Minecraft. This is because there has never been a usage for the number pad needing a negative number.

The benefit for linking your accounts provides the ability to share funds between your systems. Last I checked, 3DS games are tied to the system you purchased them on rather than just the account. However, it is possibly to permanently transfer them to a new system using the 3DS System Transfer feature. Nintendo also has a video on how to do it:

If your SD card has at least 294 open blocks of space, you should be fine. The extra data takes up only 4 blocks of space, so Pokemon Sun would take around 300 blocks of storage in total.

I found the answer on Nintendo's support website where they say that you need system menu version 6.0.0-0U or higher to backup your save-data. You can follow the instructions here. Once the data is backed up, you can use the SD card to move the backup data to a PC or something.

I use a screen protector and it works just fine. I found this thread which discusses some pros and cons of using a screen protector on a DS. The main caution seems to be keeping them out of the sun for extended periods of time, as they risk bubbling and becoming more of a nuisance than they're designed to be. However I've used a HORI Screen protector on my 3DS XL for a few weeks now and even when leaving it in the sun (ie playing outside) I haven't seen any problems.

This file is created in Windows when you have the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option selected in the File explorer. What this does is it stores graphics, movie, and some document files then generates a preview of the folder contents using a thumbnail cache, so that folder content doesn't need to be recalculated every time the folder is viewed. These can be deleted without issue, and are completely irrelevant to the 3DS. You can also disable this if you wish, to stop it from being generated, to save space.

As long as you weren't in the middle of saving when the incident occurred, you'll be fine. The only problem with removing the cartridge while the system/game is on is the game will no longer play(until you put the cart back in and restart the system), and any unsaved progress will likely be lost. If you remove the cartridge/power off the system while it is saving, there is a chance your save data could get corrupted and you would be forced to start over (varies from game to game)

You cannot, unfortunately. If you try to use an SD card with games saved on them from a different NNID, you will not be able to access them as the new NNID will not have a license for the content on the SD card. Posts in this thread confirm this. Downloaded software and things like DLC are tied (locked) to the system on which they were downloaded. If you try to use the SD card from your system on another 3DS, that 3DS won't be able to 'see' what's on the card. no. the license for the game is stored in your 3DS. Thus, if you want to create a new NNID, any games linked to your old NNID would need to repurchased if you want to play them on the new NNID (also, note that there will be no way to use your old saves).
